Replenish is shrouded in thick “Ceylonese Green” and blessed with charming cool weather all year round as it is located in the small village town of Barigama, just 6 km away from the Royal Botanical Gardens in Peradeniya and 9 km away from the historic city Kandy, Sri Lanka.
The village Barigama traces back its mark in local folklore for its lush medieval paddy fields that once fed the king and the queen with an intriguing hidden treasure, which nobody could find.
The two medieval Buddhist Rajamaha Viharas; Katarangala and Malagammana with frescos on lime depict Buddha & The Jathaka Stories in the Kandyan School of traditional art are lesser-known landmarks, as much as an appreciation of the humble and simple villagers and the beauty of their forest gardens with mix crops of organic spices, herbs, and seasonal produce.
The adjoining village Yahalathanna – just a brisk walk away – is home to one of the oldest tea factories going back to the British Era, where you can still witness the old way of tea processing in an estate that blends into the villages and the dense tropical forest that surrounds it.
Trekking through the village into the forest towards the top of the ‘Mountain with a Lonely Tree’ for a 360-degree view is a rejuvenating experience – a circular walking path swamped in natural foliage that picks you right in front of the entrance to Replenish and back.
